5 Things you didn't know about the Volkswagen Polo

Learn more about the smallest member of the current Volkswagen range

The Polo is essentially the younger brother to the Golf, entering production just a year after it's bigger sibling in 1975.

It's a car that has gained a reputation for being a reliable and capable city car that punches well above it's weight and being beloved by owners who use it on a daily basis.

Now in its sixth generation, the Polo is more practical and well equipped than ever! Read below to find out some of the current tricks in the Polo's arsenal and a few interesting facts compiled by Adrian from our sales team.

Its nearly the same size as the MK4 Golf

The current Polos measurements roughly line up with the fourth generation Golf that was sold around the turn of the millennium and is still a common sight on the roads. The Polo is slightly shorter being approximately 4 inches less in length.

It turns 50 next year!

2025 will see the Polo reach it's fiftieth year in production, a milestone only a small number of models across the motor industry have reached! It joins the Golf in the exclusive club of cars that have hit 50 years in continuous production.

The Polo GTI accelerates from 0-62mph in 6.5 seconds

That's just 0.6 of a second slower than the Golf GTI, the plucky Polo punches above it's weight class.

The Polo GTI also hit it's 25th Anniversary last year with a special edition model produced to mark the occasion!

The first Polo was actually an Audi!

The first Polo went on sale in 1975 and was actually a rebadged version of the Audi 50. When the 50 went out of production just years later, the Polo went on to become its own bespoke model and a core pillar of the Volkswagen range.

New Polos come with a generous standard spec.

All Polos are equipped with LED headlights, parking sensors, digital cockpit, cruise control, front assist and electrically folding door mirrors as standard.

Even the entry level Life model receives all of the above!
