Whilst servicing your car on a regular basis is not actually a legal requirement, there are a number of reason why we highly recommend that you do.
1. It maintains your warranty.
Failing to get your car serviced on or before the scheduled due date can severely affect the manufacturer's warranty. Ensure that you are aware of the manufacturer guidelines for servicing too as undertaking any work outside of these may invalidate your warranty, leaving you with a hefty bill to pay.
2. It saves you money.
In tricky financial times, skipping a service might seem like a good way to save a few pennies. However, avoiding regular vehicle services is actually much more of a false economy. An engine that has been well maintained will consume less fuel than one that has been left to it's own devices, so you're instantly saving on fuel costs.
Cheap tyres that are worn perform much worse in wet weather, meaning they're likely to need replacing more often than their more costly alternatives and are less safe too.
Regular oil changes will reduce the risk of engine problems, which can be extremely expensive and inconvenient to repair.
Finally, a well maintained vehicle is, by definition, less likely to break down, which ultimately saves you breakdown and recovery costs as well as the pain of being stranded mid-journey.
3. Safety and longevity.
Arguably two of the most important reasons to maintain a consistent servicing schedule. Just like the human body, a car needs to be well looked after to keep it running in optimum condition. Likewise, a healthy vehicle is a safer vehicle as the probability of breakdowns or malfunction is significantly reduced.
The majority of us rely on our cars on a daily basis and, as one of the most expensive purchases you'll make, it makes sense to ensure that it remains as safe as possible for as long as possible.
4. It retains value.
A pretty simple concept really. A car that comes with a full service history is much better placed to attract a higher price when you eventually come to sell it. Buyers will be more trusting if they are able to assess the condition of your vehicle from every perspective and therefore much more likely to pay more.
