A hattrick of races for Murray team member Colin - and more to come!

Workshop Controller Colin, from our Hyundai retailer is on a running roll.

Its been a busy few weeks for Rodgers of Plymouth, Hyundai team member Colin, who has tackled not one but three long distances running races in as many weeks - and he has no intention of stopping there!

Colin kicked off his hattrick of events with the Jurassic Coast Ultra, which saw him run 100km (60 miles) from Weymouth to Exmouth in an impressive 21:28:03.

Just a short week later, he was pounding the pavements of Plymouth, completing the Half Marathon in 1:49:40. Followed 7 days later by the Torbay Half Marathon, which he smashed in 1:49:08.

We caught up with him to chat about his fantastic achievements outside of work and find out what's next (hint: he's not about to hang up his trainers anytime soon).

Congratulations Colin! You've covered some distance over the last 3 weeks. How did you find it the experience?

The experiences vary on the day.  I have run a few half marathons now and I always find it's easier with great support from the public cheering you on from the pavements. Plymouth half is always well supported throughout the route.

Torbay was tough as it's an out and back race twice, so getting halfway around and seeing everyone, knowing you had to do that route again was tough.

The hardest was definitely the ultra. I ran it with my running friend Zoe, and we started at 9pm on the Saturday night, so straight away that was a challenge going throughout the day getting ready for this mammoth race, and running through the night in total darkness over the Jurassic coast line was not easy. We ran/walked the race together and the company kept me going, just chatting throughout and motivating each other.

How did you get into running?

Funnily enough, it started as a bit of a joke after a drunken night out. A friend of mine - who has been running for years - had been trying to get me to train with her for ages and I'd always refused.

Eventually, fuelled by a few drinks for a friend's birthday, I gave in and sent her a text agreeing to give it a go. The rest is history!

That was back in 2018 and since then, I have run countless half marathons. 3 full marathons - London, Tiverton Canal and Paris and 2 Ultras. I am also a member of Ocean City Running Club, a local group.

What motivates you to keep going?

Keeping my fitness up is one reason.  Since I started I have lost over 2 stone in weight, and feel my health has improved massively

Also medals help... running a race knowing there is a medal at the end is good motivation. People who know me know I love a medal!

What's next?

Lots more races! In August, I'm running a 50km Ultra from Okehampton to Ivybridge and am tackling the Lisbon Marathon in October - plus many more.
