Matt celebrates 25 years at Rodgers of Plymouth

Sales Executive Matt King has been with Rodgers of Plymouth for 25 years this week. We chat to him about his experiences over the years and find out just what it is about working for Rodgers that he loves!

Cast your minds back to the events of 1997... a landslide victory for New Labour under the leadership of Tony Blair, the transference of Britain's largest remaining colony Hong Kong to China and the tragic, untimely death of Princess Diana were some of the biggest stories of the year.

For Rodgers of Plymouth colleague Matt King, however, the year is significant on a much more personal level - because it was the year that marked the beginning of a long and happy career in the automotive industry. Matt came to our Brixton retailer as a fresh faced young man with high hopes of building a successful working life as a Sales Executive - and he is very proud to have achieved just that.

25 years may seem like a lifetime and in Matt's case, it literally is as when he began his career, his son wasn't even born. Today, he is working alongside Matt at our Brixton site.

Of his time in the industry, Matt says there have been some highs and lows. Which is unsurprising given that we have been through recessions, global conflicts and a certain pandemic. However, of his time with Rodgers of Plymouth, he says not too much has changed. He has seen colleagues come and go and speaks fondly of the two seasoned Sales Executives - John and Brian, who took him under their wing on his first day.

He remembers:

They were insistent that I should keep putting myself out there and talking to customers, building those important relationships and it has definitely paid off. I consider many of my customers to be friends now and they have been coming back to us year after year. In fact, I have had the pleasure of doing business with customers and in recent years their children too!

So strong are Matt's relationships with his valued customers that he estimates that every week he sells a car to a returning buyer. Which is testament to his commitment to getting the very best deals for his customers. His ability to develop fantastic, personable relationships extends to his co-workers too and Matt says that he considers every single one of his colleagues, past and present a friend.

Matt says that he has thoroughly enjoyed working for a family run business and whilst some of the processes have changed over the years, there's nothing he would change - the time has gone in a flash but he's loved it.

The fact that both Rodgers of Plymouth and Murray Group can boast so many long serving staff is truly and indication of the positive business culture fostered by our companies. We are very excited about what the wider Murray Family can offer our colleagues both now and going forward.

On behalf of everyone at the Murray Group, we would like to congratulate Matt on 25 years with Rodgers and thank him for his hard work and dedication.

Here's to the next 25 years!
