On Friday 22nd July, a team of intrepid walkers from across the Murray Group set out to walk the city in aid of St Luke's Hospice in Plymouth for their annual Midnight Walk. The event is open to women of all ages and aims to raise awareness of the fantastic work that St Luke's does for individuals with serious illnesses - alongside fundraising for the cause, of course.
The theme for this year's walk was 1982 - the year that St Luke's Plymouth started it's mission to bring exceptional care to those who have progressive, life-limiting illnesses. Fancy dress was encouraged and Team Murray seized the opportunity to don their legwarmers and day-glo accessories!
Our team consisted of colleagues from Head Office, our Skoda retailer, our Hyundai site and some friends and family too. Our reasons for signing up to the walk ranged from challenging ourselves physically to walking in memory of someone who received care from the hospice but everyone completed their chosen route with a smile on their face.
Those who opted to walk 10 miles set off at 8.45pm, with the 5 mile walkers starting at 9.45pm. We were treated to a high energy, 80s aerobic-style warm up before hitting the streets of the city. The route started at Home Park and took us through the city and over the Hoe - just in time for a gorgeous sunset for the 10 milers - through the Barbican, Exeter Street, Embankment Road and up through Laira and Mutley, ending back at Argyle's home ground.
The walk was challenging but great fun and the support from volunteers along the route (and almost every single passing car) was overwhelming and really helped to keep us motivated - particularly as the evening wore on.
Thank you and well done to everyone who participated.
