On Thursday 24th March, some of our colleagues were lucky enough to attend a quiz night hosted by PWC, in aid of local charity Plymouth Children in Poverty (PCiP).
It was a fantastic evening that saw the business community of the city come together for the first time in three years at this traditionally annual event.
As well as a being a chance to show off our amazing quizzing skills (or not so amazing in our case, shamefully) the evening raised awareness of the fantastic work that PCiP are doing to help support children and families across Plymouth.
1 in 5 children in Plymouth live in poverty and shockingly, it is estimated that their own children will also face huge challenges unless the root causes are tackled.
In line with Plymouth City Council's Child Poverty Action Plan, PCiP are working towards 5 targeted work streams to help alleviate poverty. These are:
- Widening Horizons - raising the aspirations of our children, based on the Millfields Trust Model
- National Citizen Service
- Dental Health
- Grow, share, cook
- Right to Read
Murray Group are thrilled to have named Plymouth Children in Poverty as our Charity of the Year 2022. As such, we will not only be offering our support through fundraising events but we also have the exciting opportunity to get involved in the Widening Horizons project too.
This innovative scheme aims to raise the aspirations of local children by introducing them to the broad range of careers that are available - in our case within the automotive industry.
From HR and marketing to technical, sales and finance roles; the program showcases the broad range of opportunities available in the sector and aims to inspire children to dream big. It is a year long project that is available to children in Year 5.
We are so excited to be working with PCiP and look forward to supporting them over the course of this year.
